He completed three years of undergraduate training in Sciences at the University of Calgary from 1966 to 1969. He entered Dental School at the University of Alberta in 1969 and graduated in 1973. Dr. Robinson then undertook three years of post-graduate residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital, Oral and Maxillofacial training program in New York, New York.

Following completion of this program, Dr. Robinson spent two years in fellowship training through various maxillofacial centres in Wales, Scotland, England, Holland, Germany and Switzerland.

Dr. Robinson obtained his Fellowship in 1978 and has been engaged in active oral and maxillofacial surgical practice in Edmonton from 1978 to the present. He is on staff at all Capital Health Regional Hospitals. Dr. Robinson has been an Assistant, Associate, and a full Clinical Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Department of Oral Health Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Robinson has served as Hospital Services Representative for the Alberta Dental Association, as an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a line officer and President of the Alberta Society of Dental Specialists, and is a past President of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Robinson has maintained an active involvement and commitment to iRSM at the Misericordia Community Hospital since its inception. He is the President of a non-profit, community service, Buddhist organization, and is a certified medical acupuncturist.
